I have been working in wax for several years and I find the natural world and its textures and colors an inspiration for the encaustic work .
The work can be all wax with oil and pastel color added or a collage of found objects, drawings, photographs and watercolors or inks incorporated in it. The piece begins with a base layer of wax and the germ of an idea and then takes on a life of its own as it progresses. Each layer of the painting is fused to the underlying layers using an iron, heat gun or propane torch.
